Using your Map Page

Here are some quick instructions on how to use your Blog Map:

  1. When you write a post, scroll to the bottom of the page and enter your current location in the “LogMyTrip Location” box
  2. As you you write a couple more posts and enter a couple more locations, you will notice the Elective Map page displays a dot-to-dot map of where you have blogged from
  3. You can click on the markers on the map to view posts written at that location
If you would like to embed a google map with your intended route, then this is not the map to do it on – instructions on that coming soon!

Customize your blog

Once you’ve signed up for your blog, you’ll probably want to make it your own. Here are a few tips on the features available to make your elective blog look the way you want.

Changing the background
By now you will have seen the default background header image that your blog is set up with – but you can easily change this to any image or photo you want:

  1. Login to your blog’s admin page
  2. Choose the Appearance link on the menu on the left
  3. Select Background
From this page you can upload an image or remove the default image and choose a colour for the background.
When choosing an image to use for your background, keep the following in mind:
  • The image should be large enough so that it spans the width of the header when the blog is viewed
  • Choose something that does not distract from the text in front of it and make it difficult to read
  • The image will be given a blur effect when you upload it to help the text stand out – so play around with a few images until you find something that works well
Using Widgets
Widgets are little add-ons for your site and are added to the bottom or right hand side of your blog. There are a number of different ones available and you can find them here:
  1. Login to your blog’s admin page
  2. Choose the Appearance link on the menu on the left
  3. Select Widgets
Once you’re on the Widgets page, you can drag various widgets on to either the side bar or the bottom bar – this will make sense when you see it! You can add a calendar, a list of recent posts, a profile section and much more.
